SIPRI Workshop on a biorisk assessment toolkit

On 17 and 18 January, CBWNet members Una Jakob, Gunnar Jeremias and Ralf Trapp participated in a SIPRI workshop that discussed safety and security risks associated with research and development in the life sciences, biomedicine and biotechnology. SIPRI is developing a toolkit to provide practical guidance to laboratory personnel directly involved in such research to conduct safety and security risk assessments. Workshop participants looked at key research fields (genome editing, nanotechnology, digital technologies and self-spreading vaccines) as well as reviewed the draft toolkit. The workshop was multidisciplinary in nature, bringing together researchers from different scientific disciplines as well as practitioners in conducting safety as well as security risk assessments.
