Kristoffer Burck presented his research at the annual conference of the European International Studies Association

CBWNet researcher Kristoffer Burck presented his research, titled “Charging Full Steam Ahead? – Progression and Contestation of the Investigation Norm Through Ad-Hoc Mechanisms under the Chemical Weapons Convention”, at the Annual EISA Conference in Potsdam from 05.-09. September 2023. The presentation was held at a panel on “The Conceptual Creation of International Norms” and addressed whether the creation of the Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) at the OPCW creates a new norm unforeseen in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The argument put forth is that the new "investigation norm" was incorporated into the CWC framework by intertwining it with the legal structure of the Joint Investigative Mechanism, which was established by the UN Security Council and preceded the IIT.
