CBWNet researcher consulted for BWC Youth Recommendations

On 22 November 2022, CBWNet researcher Una Jakob was consulted by the Youth for Biosecurity intiative's Working Group 5 on Institutional Strengthening of the BWC.
The Youth for Biosecurity Network aims to include the next generation’s voices and recommendations in the BWC to strengthen the international biosecurity regime. Towards that goal youth delegations are working on common Youth Recommendations for the Ninth Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention. The event on 22 November brought the next generation of biosecurity experts together with established professionals to discuss proposals and challenges at the upcoming Review Conference. Dr Un Jakob discussed challenges and opportunities of different approaches, such as legally binding verification, to the insittutional strengthening of the Convention.

The initative is co-organised by NTI | bio, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA), iGEM, the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (CHS), the Next Generation Global Health Security Network (NextGen) and Open Philanthropy.

The BWC Youth Recommendations will be presented at a Side Event during the Ninth BWC Review Conference on 30 November 2022, 9:00 CET.
