CBWNet participates in Max-Planck-Society conference "30 Years of CWC: Histories, Achievements, Challenges"

The Fritz-Haber-Institut of the Max-Planck-Society, together with the University of Hamburg and the Chemical Weapons Convention Coalition, organised a conference to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the opening for signature of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). On 5 October former OPCW Director General and CBWNet transfer network member, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü gave a keynote address. On 6 October CBWNet consultant Dr. Ralf Trapp gave a talk on the CWC verification system, noting that more than half of the CWC text deals with verification issues and highlighting some implementation challenges. CBWNet coordinator, Dr. Alexander Kelle, in his presentation addressed the question to what extent the CWC verification system could serve as a model for future verification arrangements under the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.
